Learning Curve Calculator

Learning Curve Calculator helps calculating the time required to perform a task, as the experience increases.

What is Learning Curve?

A Learning Curve is a graphical representation of how an increase in learning comes from greater experience; or how the more someone (or something) performs a task

The term Learning Curve is used in two main ways: where the same task is repeated in a series of trials, or where a body of knowledge is learned over time.

Hermann Ebbinghaus first described the learning curve in 1885 in the field of the psychology of learning, although the name did not come into use until 1903. In 1936 Theodore Paul Wright described the effect of learning on production costs in the aircraft industry. This form, in which unit cost is plotted against total production, is sometimes called an experience curve.

The Formula of Learning Curve function

The basic formula of the Learning Curve function is as follows:

Tn = T1 n-m

Where:

T1 the amount of time required to produce the first unit

Tn the amount of time required to produce the n'th unit

m is the the learning curve factor, or improvement factor.

The value of Improvement Factor is between 0 to 1

Units

Given that the amount of time required to produce the first unit (T1) is 10 hours, and the Improvement Factor (m) is 0.1, then:

According to Learning Curve Calculator, the amount of time required to produce the 1'th unit is 10.00 hours

According to Learning Curve Calculator, the amount of time required to produce the 2'th unit is 9.33 hours

According to Learning Curve Calculator, the amount of time required to produce the 3'th unit is 8.96 hours
